Match Report

With European competition on the horizon, earlier today The New Saints  began the pre-season campaign with a game against Ellesmere Rangers.

Matt Burton’s North West Counties Football League Division One South side were the hosts, as we travelled to Beech Grove.

It was also the first game that fans of TNS were able to watch, since the 2-2 draw against Barry Town United in March, 2020, at Park Hall.

The visitors, who began with a strong starting line-up, dominated the opening third (it was played over three x 30 minute segments), but as the referee blew his whistle, the deadlock had yet to be broken.

New signing, Danny Davies, went close early on but his attempt was just wide. The New Saints also hit the woodwork as well, courtesy of Adrian Cieslewicz, while Paul Harrison was untroubled at the other end.

The second-third was uneventful as far as chances were concerned, as the score remained 0-0.

Going into the final segment, Anthony Limbrick made a number of changes, as the head coach ensured that as many squad players as possible gained valuable pitch-minutes.

Although it was more akin to the first third in terms of tempo and chances created, nevertheless, there were no goals as the referee’s final whistle saw the game end 0-0.
