Five star performance by The New Saints Women at Cascade in the Adran Trophy

The New Saints Women advanced to the quarter-finals of the Genero Adran Trophy with a 5-0 victory over Cascade YC Women at the CSE Ystrad Mynach.

Lexie Harrison netted in the first 45, and then the floodgates opened in the second-half, as Lucie Platt scored a great goal.

Later in the second-half, Emily Ridge hit a brace, with Beth Lewis also amongst the action.

The Saints were dominant for the majority of the encounter and fully deserved to go through.

Greg Draper’s side will play the quarter-final on the 15th of January,2023.

Cascade YC had the first chance of the encounter in the 11th minute, when Sian Rees hit a strike in the box that went across the net and off target.

Nine minutes on, Chrystalla Moreton got on the end of free-kick for the home team, as the no.16 had a header in the 18-yard area that Sarah Parkes collected.

The New Saints had their first shot at goal before the half hour mark, Emily Ridge struck the ball from outside the penalty area, but Kirsty Lewis was there to gather.

On the 30th minute, Caitlin Chapman struck in the box, with the attempt hit over the crossbar.

The Saints took the lead in the 34th minute, Izzy Redding touched the ball down in the opposition box and crossed it over the net to Lexie Harrison, who struck it past Lewis and into the goal.

Late on in the first-half, Lucie Platt got on the end of a through ball and had an effort in the box, which went off target.

In stoppage time, Chapman found the back of the net from close range, however Greg Draper’s team got penalized for a foul.

At the start of the second 45, Helen Evans whipped in a free-kick that found Platt, as the number 10 headed just wide of the net.

TNS took a two goal lead in 54th minute. Harrison played a ball across to Platt, who hit a clean strike into the bottom-left of the net.

It wasn’t far off three before the hour, as Chapman made a pass to Harrison, but the 20-year-old hit over the net.

The score was three in the 77th, Harrison put a cross to Ridge, who tapped the ball home.

It was soon four, when Harrison got brought down in the box and club skipper Beth Lewis converted in the 85th.

Number five came just before the end, Lia Lewis put a through ball to Ridge, as the 30-year-old slotted the ball past Kirsty Lewis and into the corner of the net.
