Cardiff Met Women 2-0 The New Saints Women: Archers Get The Better Of Saints In The Capital

The New Saints Women fell to a 2-0 defeat away against Cardiff Met Women at Cyncoed Campus this afternoon. 

Both Yzzy Taylor’s team’s goals came in the first half through Grace Corne and Emily Allen. 

The Saints played really well, in what was an even contest against a side with fine pedigree, and were unfortunate not to score. 

In the opening minute, Shannon Evans ran into the box and shot, but the opportunity went of Sarah Parkes’ goal. 

Not long after, Emily Allen received a cross from the left side. Allen collected the ball and hit, with Parkes making a comfortable stop. 

In the 15^th minute, Sophie Hancocks had a wild attempt from 25-yards away which went well wide. 

Moments later, Francesca Scott ran in and shot as Annabel Sweeney made a fine save. 

Five minutes on, Allen had a header from a corner for Met with great clearance by the TNS defence. 

The American, Elianna Chavez, got in on goal soon after, and tapped the ball towards the goal, with Jen Jarvie clearing the ball off the line to keep the game goalless. 

Just past the half-hour mark, Erin Murray got on the end of an Allen whip-in, however Murray’s attempt went wide of the net. 

Met broke the deadlock in the 35^th minute. Sophie Hancocks whipped in a corner that Grace Corne headed into the net. 

TNS ran up the other end of the pitch, where Faye Marshall delivered a marvellous through ball to Francesca Scott. She shot at goal from outside the 18-yard area, as Sweeney made the save to clear the ball. 

Just before half-time, Emily Allen received the ball in the box for Met and scored past Parkes to give the home side a two-goal lead. 

At the start of the second forty-five, a ball got whipped in from Chavez that found Hancocks, who blasted the opportunity over the crossbar. 

Past the hour mark, Allen headed wide for the Archers in the box as the home side went looking for a third. 

Towards the end of the game, Scott ran in on goal after receiving a fine pass, however the flag went up for offside. 

Andy Williams’ side will next be in action at Colliers Park on October 3rd in the FAW Women’s Cup, facing local side Wrexham Women.
