Saints shoot down Archers in nine goal thriller

The New Saints Women ended the 22/23 season on a high with an exciting 5-4 victory over Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus.

In a match too crazy to sumamrise, Chantelle Teare netted four, and Emily Ridge found the other for Greg Draper’s side.

The Student’s goals came from an Ellie Preece brace and strikes from Robyn Pinder and Ruby Colleton.

Saturday’s result means The Saints finish fourth on 26 points in the Genero Adran Premier.

The New Saints started fast off the blocks in the second minute when Beth Lewis crossed the ball to Emily Ridge, who headed just wide of the Cardiff Met net.

Not long later, Ridge had another effort at goal from a few yards out, however Amelia Forkings managed to stop the effort.

Greg Draper’s team did take the lead in the 12th minute. Caitlin Chapman put in a corner cross that found Chantelle Teare and the number nine headed the ball into Forkings’ bottom-left corner.

The Archers equalised with their first attempt of the game in the 18th minute, as Forkings kicked a goal-kick that went over everyone and found Ellie Preece, who shot from close range past Libby Rubin’s left and into the goal.

Met came close to a second past the half-hour mark. It was Preece again that almost scored when she hit the ball from six-yards out, but was only to be denied by the near post.

In the 34th minute, Teare put in a pass that found Nicole Samson in the middle and the 17-year-old had a shot that deflected inches wide of the post.

The home side took the lead with the last kick of the first-half. Preece ran in on goal with the ball, past the defence and blasted a shot into the net.

In the opening moments of the second-half, Teare found the a leveller for Draper’s Saints through a great strike from outside the box that found it’s way past Forkings’ bottom-right corner.

Met restored their advantage in the 54th minute. Amy Long played an over-the-top ball in the penalty area to Robyn Pynder, who powered the ball into the goal.

in what was turning out to be an exhilarating match, Teare scored a hat-trick to get TNS back on level terms a couple of minutes on. The 21-year-old intercepted the ball from the Met defence and scored inside the 18-yard area to set up an exciting last 30 minutes.

The Genero Adran Trophy winners got a fourth in the 70th minute. Sophie Hancocks played in a ball that found Ruby Colleton and the substitute netted from point-blank range.

TNS equalised once more in the 73rd minute. Beth Lewis put a ball through to Ridge, where the number 35 did an audacious chip on Forkings from outside the box.

The Oswestry outfit got the lead back soon after. Chapman whipped in a ball that found Teare, who headed in for her fourth of the game and TNS’ fifth. The goal secured TNS the victory to end the 22/23 Adran Premier campaign on a high.
