Saints Return To Winning Ways At The Oval

The New Saints got back on track with a comfortable 3-0 JD Cymru Premier victory against Caernarfon Town.

The sides went in level at the break, but second-half strikes from Louis Robles and Ryan Astles, plus a Joe Faux own goal, made sure the three points went back to Oswestry.

It was Anthony Limbrick’s team who started on the front foot, with a snapshot from Ash Baker going wide with just six minutes on the clock.

Two minutes later, the visitors were threatening again. Following a free-kick, Baker did well to head the ball back across the box towards Astles, who then hit the post with a header of his own.

Caernarfon had their first chance of the night with a quarter of an hour played, when Darren Thomas sent an effort into the side netting following a corner.

Chances continued to fall The Saints’ way though, and both Keston Davies and Jordan Williams had chances in the minutes that followed.

But with 35 minutes gone, the home side thought they’d taken the lead, as Darren Thomas headed home from the edge of the box.

After a powerful Noah Edwards strike had come back off the crossbar, the Caernarfon number 10  was in the right place to convert the rebound, but much to his annoyance, looked to his right to see the offside flag go up.

Despite a half full of chances, the sides went in level at the break, but it didn’t take long for a goal to arrive following the restart.

An effort from Louis Robles took a deflection inside the box, deceiving the goalkeeper, before nestling in the far corner of the net to open the scoring.

It was all TNS from that point onwards, with Jon Routledge and Leo Smith both going close to adding a second for their side.

However, with 70 minutes gone, Limbrick’s team finally doubled their lead, as Ryan Astles headed home following a corner.

And just two minutes later, the Park Hall side made sure of the points by adding their third of the night.

It was Robles who had the initial volleyed effort, forcing a save from Jakub Ojrzynski, but the rebound struck the unfortunate Joe Faux, whose touch turned the ball past his own goalkeeper.

In the end, the result was a convincing one for Anthony Limbrick’s side, who bounced back in the perfect fashion following defeat last week.

The Saints are back in action this coming Tuesday (April 5), travelling to Maes Tegid to take on Bala Town.
