The New Saints moved 13 points clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier following a 2-0 victory against Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Jordan Williams was on target twice at The Renewable Centre Stadium to extend his side’s winning streak to three matches in all competitions, and score his 19 goal of the season in the process.

The visitors made the perfect start in South Wales, opening the scoring with just seven minutes on the clock.

After collecting the ball in space down the right flank, Dan Williams picked out Jordan Williams inside the six-yard box, and the number 17 turned the cross past goalkeeper Will Fuller to score his 18th goal of the season.

With 16 minutes played, Briton Ferry had their first chance of the night, but after spinning on the edge of the box, Kian Jenkins’ effort proved comfortable for Nathan Shepperd to deal with.

Former QPR man Shepperd was involved again in the 30th minute, showing some superb handling to prevent an inviting cross from Mitchel Bates causing problems for the TNS defence.

It proved to be an important intervention too, as just three minutes later Craig Harrison’s side doubled their advantage.

Finding space at the near post following a corner, Jordan Williams struck again, guiding a deft header beyond Fuller and into the back of the net.

The former Stockport County man had an opportunity to seal his hat-trick seven minutes before the break, but his effort from the right of the box rolled agonisingly wide of Fuller’s right post.

In an attempt to alter the course of proceedings, Andy Dyer made two changes at the interval, with Ellis Sage and Rio Dyer replacing Tom Price and Connor Smith.

It was a scrappy start to the second period, as both sides struggled to gain sustained possession and create opportunities in front of goal.

In the 59th minute, the first chance of the second half finally arrived when Ben Clark had a powerful effort parried by Fuller.

Despite the rebound falling kindly for Dan Williams, the midfielder failed to get a shot away, and the home side survived the danger.

It was then Craig Harrison’s turn to make changes, with Ryan Astles introduced for Jordan Marshall and Rory Holden for Louis Phillips.

One of those subs, Holden, went close to a TNS third in the 81st minute, but after creating space for a shot on the edge of the penalty area, his left-footed effort was narrowly wide of Fuller’s right post.

At the other end, Jack Fanning headed wide from a corner 60 seconds later, before Shepperd preserved his clean sheet in the second minute of stoppage time with a stop from Thomas Walters.

Two-nil is how it ended at The Renewable Centre Stadium, with The New Saints making it three consecutive JD Cymru Premier victories and moving 13 points clear at the top of the table in the process.

With no game this weekend, The New Saints return to action on Boxing Day (December 26th), welcoming Bala Town to Park Hall. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30pm.
