It was a tough day at Jenner Park for The New Saints Women, as Greg Draper’s team lost 3-0 to Barry Town United in the Genero Adran Premier Plate.

Angharad Beman netted a brace, while India Shanahan scored the other goal for the Linnets. 

Sunday’s result sees The New Saints drop below Barry Town by two points in the battle for the Plate.

The New Saints came narrowly close to taking the lead in the 13th minute, as Mel Barlow hit an effort from 30-yards out, with Erin Brennan managing to palm the ball onto the crossbar and away.

Barry Town United went up the other end of the pitch and took the lead not long later in the 17th minute, where skipper, Chloe Tiley, whipped a corner into the box that found Angharad Beman, who headed the ball into the net from six-yards away.

Just past the half hour mark, the hosts took as two-goal lead. India Shanahan intercepted Grace Dunkerley and struck the ball into the net over Ellie Suckley.

Before the break, Barry Town got a third. Tiley put in a corner-ball that found Beman, and the 19-year-old slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner from close range past Suckley for a brace.

At the start of the second 45, The Saints should have had one back. Dunkerley played a fantastic ball into the box that found Chantelle Teare, who missed an open net from 12-yards away.

The Dragons were back on the attack looking for a fourth in the 65th minute, as Taite Trivett shot wide from outside of the 18-yard-area.

Late on in the game, substitute, Evie Manders, had a shot from distance that Brennan stopped.

That was the end of the action with Barry walking away with the three points.

Draper’s team’s next game is against Cardiff Met at Park Hall Stadium on Sunday, March 24th.
