The New Saints Women suffered a 4-1 loss at Jenner Park against Barry Town United in the Genero Adran Premier, in what was the first away defeat of the new year.

Danielle Broadhurst netted in the first-half for the Dragons, before Amiee Deacon, Chloe Tiley, and Amelia Herbert all scored in the second 45, as Lia Lewis got a late consolation in added on time.

The result means The New Saints stay fourth in the Adran Premier table with three games to play in phase one.

Barry Town United to the lead with the first chance of the game in the 4th minute, where Hannah Bennet played a pass across the box, which found new signing, Danielle Broadhurst, who scored from close range into an empty net.

In the 21st minute, the hosts tried the same move, as Taite Trivett played a ball across the box, but debutant goalkeeper, Lois Jones was there to cut out the move.

Before the half hour, Izzy Redding made an important challenge to keep The New Saints within a goal, as the centre-half denied Catherine Walsh from hitting the ball inside the penalty area.

With not too long to go before half-time, Chantelle Teare threaded pass to Ella Hartley, and Saints’ number ten got a shot away just inside the 18-yard-area, but Erin Brennan was there to stop the effort.

Just before the break, Helen Evans had a shot from range, which Brennan saved to keep the home side in the lead after the first 45.

The New Saints had the first opportunity of the second-half, as Matilda Edge got an effort away in the box that went over Barry goalkeeper, Brennan, but also inches over the net.

Seconds on, Stevie McCarthy Campbell’s team were up the other end of the pitch, with Hana Bennett powering an effort from 25-yards out, and Jones stopped the ball.

On the hour mark, Saints skipper, Beth Lewis powered the ball across the box for Greg Draper’s team, but nobody could find that crucial final touch in the six-yard-area to send the ball into the net.

A few moments on, the Oswestry-based team were on another attack, as Caitlin Chapman made a blazing run down the right side of the pitch, and shot from outside the box, however, Brennan was there for Barry to stop the effort.

The hosts got a second goal against the run of play in the 68th minute when a mix up at the back led to Aimee Deacon netting from point-blank range.

It was a third for the hosts in the 71st minute, as Chloe Tiley scored directly from a corner.

Moments on, Draper’s side came close to getting one back through a Helen Evans effort on the 18-yard-line that hit the side netting.

In the 86th minute, the linnets hit in a fourth through 17-year-old, Amelia Herbert, who struck past Amelia Herbert’s bottom-right corner from inside the box.

Lia Lewis got a late consolation with the best goal of the day in stoppage time, as the number 34 hit a wonderful strike from 25-yards out.
