The New Saints Women started their competitive campaign in 2022 with a close 2-0 loss against Barry Town United Ladies at Jenner Park.

A goal in either half from Tate Trivett gave the Linnets three points.

It was the 11th minute of the game when the first opportunity came in favour of The New Saints Women. Lexie Harrison had an effort from outside the box that went over the crossbar.

The following minute Harrison had another effort, the attacker had a shot in the 18-yard area that deflected wide of the Barry Town United goal.

Four later, Lucie Platt hit a free-kick just outside the penalty area which Dragons keeper Brennan managed to catch.

The Saints were on the attack once more in the 23rd minute when Harrison had an attempt in the box that was palmed away by Brennan.

Just before the half hour mark, Caitlin Chapman hit the ball in the Barry Town penalty area with the effort going close to the net but wide.

In the 34th minute the home side had their first opportunity of the encounter. Grace O’Reilly thought she nearly scored; however Sarah Parkes was there to palm the effort away.

Five later Harrison had another attempt from just outside the penalty area, once more the ball just went wide of the net.

Joshua Anderson’s team took the lead against the run of play not long before the break. A pass got played across the goal that found Taite Trivett who netted from close range.

At the start of the second forty-five Trivett was nearly in again. The no.11 had a go from outside the penalty area which Parkes stopped.

In the 54th minute, Georgia Griffiths hit ball from 25-yards out that drifted wide away from the home team’s net.

Just under 20 minutes later Lucie Platt got sent off for a kick on Brennen as The Saints went down to ten.

The Linnets secured the victory in the 82nd minute. Trivett scored a brace as she hit the ball past Parkes’ bottom-right in the box.

Andy Williams’ team will next be in action against Cardiff Met WFC at Park Hall Stadium in the Genero Adran Trophy semi-final on Sunday (February 27).
