After bouncing back from having their 100% record ended by a 1-1 home draw with Barry Town United on 8th February with a 2-0 home win over Briton Ferry Llansawel the previous Sunday, The New Saints Girls Under 19s made it 2 in a row with a 6-3 home win over Connah's Quay Nomads in their Genero Adran Under 19 Premier Conference clash at Park Hall Stadium on Friday night.
Saints had gone into the game in 2nd place out of 8 in the table, a point behind leaders Barry Town United with 3rd placed Wrexham a further point behind, albeit with both Saints and Wrexham having a game in hand over the South Wales side.
Meanwhile, Connah's Quay Nomads went into the game on the back of 1-1 home draw with Pontypridd United the previous Sunday, which had seen them bounce back after losing their first 2 games.
That draw with Pontypridd plus results elsewhere had left Nomads bottom of the table, a point behind 7th placed Carmarthen Town with 6th placed Cardiff City a further 2 points ahead, albeit with Nomads having a game in hand over Carmarthen and 3 games in hand over Cardiff.
Saints got off to the best possible start when Non Williams put the hosts ahead after just 15 seconds before Sophia Grice made it 2-0 just into the 6th minute.
Bess Watson made it 3-0 just before the end of the 23rd minute and after Hannah Slack had pulled a goal back for Nomads just before the end of the 31st minute, Evie Foster made it 4-1 in the 35th minute.
Then in the 36th minute, Nomads were awarded a penalty after Megan Galeandro was pulled down in the 6 yard box by Saints keeper Charlie Scott when in on goal.
Referee Bradley Tonks showed Scott a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity to leave Saints with 10 players before showing Saints manager Matt Burton a yellow card for coming onto the pitch and voicing his opinion.
Outfield player Grice took over in goal and when the fuss had died down, Ella Jones stepped up to score the resulting spot kick to reduce Saints' lead to 4-2 in the 38th minute.
Then right at the end of the 40th minute, it was 5-2 when Williams scored her second of the night to restore Saints' 3 goal margin just before the break.
However, Nomads refused to lie down and Lexi Walsh pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 47th minute to make it 5-3 before Saints went 6-3 up through Watson's second goal the night just into the 78th minute.
That proved to be the end of the scoring and after an eventual total of 8 minutes 15 seconds of added time at the end, the final blast of referee Tonks' whistle brought the game to a close and confirmed Saints' win to send them 2 points clear of previous leaders Barry at the top of the table.
