A week and a half before the new Genero Adran Premier campaign, The New Saints Women claimed a 5-1 win against Shifnal Town at Park Hall Stadium in their final pre-season match.
Trialist B opened up the scoring for the hosts, before Shifnal got a leveller through Lexie Bennett, but two Chantelle Teare goals later in the first-half, and further goals in the second 45 from Kay Baker and Soffia Jones secured the victory.
The New Saints Women started quick in the 7th minute, as Chantelle Teare crossed the ball into Trailst B, who netted from point-blank range for a 1-0 lead.
Shifnal Town were on the front foot for the first time not long later, when Taylor Davies had an effort from just outside the 18-yard area, which was fired over the crossbar.
The visitors had another attempt seconds on with a long-range Rebecca Lee-Bown shot going just over the goal.
Teare led The New Saints back on the attack in the 15th minute, when the number nine hit the post 20-yards out.
There was a good save by Mackenzie Haydn-Jones to stop Shiffnal shortly on, as Olivia Lloyd ran on in goal and hit an attempt, however the Saints’ keeper palmed the attempt to safety.
The visitors did get an equaliser in the 24th minute with an Olivia Bennett strike going in from 35-yards out.
Saints were narrowly close to retaking in the lead in the 39th minute, a Maria Francis-Jones free-kick found Kay Baker on the edge of the six-yard area, and the centre-half headed inches wide.
The lead was regained soon on, as a defensive mistake was capitalised by Teare, who slotted the ball into an empty net.
In the 42nd minute, the Oswestry-based team got a third, as a Francis-Jones free-kick found Teare in the box, and the number nine got a touch for the ball to pass the keeper and into the goal.
Past the break on the hour mark, TNS substitute, Grace Thomas had an effort from close distance that was saved by Izzy Freer.
Lee Bown almost got a second goal for Shifnal in the 69th minute, however she was denied by a fine Becca Elliott save.
A fourth came for TNS in the 77th minute, when Francis-Jones whipped a ball into the box that 28-year-old Baker connected with from a couple of yards out.
Soffia Jones got number five for the hosts not too long later, as a Teare cross found Jones in the box, and the number eight hit home from inside the six-yard area.
Jodie Williams’ team’s next match is the Genero Adran Premier opener against defending champions, Cardiff City, at Park Hall on Sunday, September 7th.
