There was a defeat in North Wales, as The New Saints Women suffered a 2-0 loss away at The Globe against Wrexham in the Genero Adran Premier.

The goals came in either half for the hosts through Katie Barker and substitute, Faye Hillier-Knox.

Sunday’s result leaves The New Saints fourth in the Adran Premier table on 12 points.

It was The New Saints that started off the brighter of the two teams, as Maria Francis-Jones whipped in a great cross that found skipper, Lia Lewis, who had an attempt in the box that just went wide.

The Red Dragons took the lead up the other end of the pitch in the 16th minute, as Lili Jones slotted a through ball in-between the two centre halves, and found Katie Barker, with the forward managing to slot the ball past Mackenzie Haydn-Jones from close-range.

Not long before the break, Lewis put in a fine cross that found Gibraltar international, Caitlin Chapman, in the 18-yard-area, and the winger had a header that hit the crossbar and was cleared away by the Wrexham defence.

In added-on-time, it was the home team that was back up the other end of the pitch, as Barker had a second opportunity of the game, this time the shot from a few yards out that went off target.

At the start of the second 45, Mariam Mahmood had an effort from outside the penalty area that was dealt with by Haydn-Jones.

Moments on, in the 49th minute, Mahmood got another shot at the net, and the ball hit the post before being cleared.

The Saints hit the front foot soon later, with Kay Baker almost replicating her unbelievable strike last week from inside the box, as a strike from the centre-half inside the box hit the crossbar.

On the hour, Francis-Jones made a fantastic run the down the right-hand side, and found Chantelle Teare, who had a shot at the near post, but the ball went off target.

Seconds on in the 61st minute, Francis-Jones had an effort from range that was collected by Wrexham keeper, Liz Craven.

The Oswestry-based team almost scored in the 74th minute, when substitute, Grace Thomas, ran through on goal, but was taken out by Craven. The referee reached for his pocket, but it turned out to only be a yellow card.

Seconds on, Francis-Jones, fired a free-kick at the net that was tipped over by Craven.

In the 81st minute, Wrexham got a second after a mishap at back, as substitute, Faye Hillier-Knox, slotted the ball past Haydn-Jones’ bottom-right from a few yards out.

Shortly before the end, Hillier-Knox looked for a brace with a shot inside the box that was saved by Haydn-Jones.

TNS are next in action away at Mount Field against Llanfair United, as it is the start of the Genero Adran Trophy defence in the Round of 16 on Sunday, November 9th.
