The New Saints made an emphatic return to winning ways as they defeated Haverfordwest County 5-0 at Park Hall.

Leading 1-0 at the break thanks to a well-taken finish from Rory Holden, Craig Harrison’s side ran riot in the second-half, scoring four goals in 11 minutes to make it an afternoon to remember.

Jordan Williams scored three of the five, securing the match ball, while Ryan Brobbel was also on target for the first time this season.

It was a fast start from both teams, but it was the Saints who had the first chance of the game with eight minutes on the clock.

Although he took up a good position at the back post to get on the end of Jordan Williams’ ball across the box, Ben Wilson’s effort from close-range was straight at visiting goalkeeper Luca Rees, however.

The opening goal did arrive just 10 minutes later though, and it was the defending champions who made the breakthrough.

Racing onto Ryan Brobbel’s over-the-top ball, Rory Holden made no mistake as he slotted past the outrushing goalkeeper to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes before the break, the Northern Ireland U21 international went close to adding a second for his side, but his strike from distance fell just the wrong side of the Rees’ left-hand post.

Brobbel went close again just moments later, but on that occasion, watched a dipping shot, again from distance, cannon back out off the crossbar.

The Bluebirds’ goal continued to live a very charmed life in the closing stages of the half, with a header from Dan Williams in the second minute of stoppage time also coming back out off the post.

Picking up where they left off following the restart, Craig Harrison’s side continued to cause problems for their visitors, and in the 56th minute, they were finally rewarded with a second goal.

After Jack Bodenham’s initial header was saved by the goalkeeper, Jordan Williams was on hand to poke home the rebound, giving his side breathing space in the game.

It sparked a flurry of goals at Park Hall, and just like that, the Saints were celebrating again.

In the 59th minute, a long-range Dan Williams strike took a wicked deflection off the former Stockport County man, wrong-footing the goalkeeper, and helping the ball find the back of the net.

After his earlier assist, Brobbel himself got in on the act with a well-taken finish with 65 minutes played, making the score 4-0, and securing all three points for his side.

The action wasn’t over there though. Two minutes later, Jordan Williams was picked out by Wilson inside the penalty area, and after rounding the goalkeeper with a superb piece of skill, secured the match ball with his third of the afternoon.

It was a welcome return to wining ways for the JD Cymru Premier champions, who now switch their focus to Nathaniel MG Cup action on Wednesday (September 10th).

Harrison’s side travel to Connah’s Quay Nomads in the third round of the competition, with kick-off at the Essity Stadium scheduled for 7:45pm.
