Saints Women hit Seasiders for six

Shauna Duffy’s Saints Women continued their good start to the season with a 6-1 victory against Aberystwyth Town at Park Hall Stadium in the Genero Adran Premier.

A Tiggy Webb double and strikes from Molly Havard, Lia Lewis, Lexi Jones, and Chantelle Teare canceled out Maria Ewers’ goal for the visitors midway through the first-half.

The Saints continue to sit top of the table on goal difference following the second round of fixtures in the Adran Premier.

It is the most goals Saints have scored in a game in the history of the Adran Premier.

The New Saints Women started off the game brightly through a Tiggy Webb goal in the fifth minute. Wales international, Maria Francis-Jones, whipped in a fantastic free-kick that found the former Cardiff Met player, who hit the ball into the net at the back post.

Shauna Duffy’s team had another effort in the 15th minute, as Francis-Jones shot just inside the box, but the effort just went wide.

Moments on, Francis-Jones had another attempt in the 18-yard-area , this time the ball went into the side netting.

Aberystwyth Town found an equaliser against the run of play in the 21st minute. Maria Ewers collected the ball inside the box and shot past Becca Elliot’s bottom-left just outside the penalty area.

The Saints re-took the lead past the half-hour. Chantelle Teare made a good run into the box to pass the ball to Molly Havard, and the striker scored from point-blank range.

Another Saints attack came in the 37th minute. Havard delivered a great through ball to Grace Dunkerley, with a strike from the 17-year-old saved by Chelsea Herbert.

There was almost a third before the break. A Francis-Jones corner found Teare in the box, who had a header that was blocked, before a Webb rebound went narrowly wide.

The Oswestry-based team had a quick start to the second 45 to get a third, as captain, Lia Lewis, netted a great finish from outside the box over Herbert and into the net.

Another goal wasn’t far away in the 50th minute. Francis-Jones whipped a corner into Teare, and the number nine had a header that hit the crossbar before the visitors cleared their lines.

In the 56th minute, TNS did find a fourth. Another great cross from Francis-Jones found Lexi Jones at the front post, who tapped the ball past Herbert’s bottom-left and into the net from close range.

A fifth goal came twenty minutes on. A marvellous over-the-top ball found Teare, with the 23-year-old dribbling the ball into the box, where the forward struck the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

TNS found a sixth not long before the end. A Francis-Jones corner ended up finding Webb, and the centre-half smashed the shot away inside the box to round off a great TNS performance.

Duffy’s side are next in action against Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium next Sunday (September 29th).
