The New Saints Women were knocked out of the semi-final stage of the Genero Adran Trophy after suffering a 5-1 against Swansea City at Park Hall Stadium.

Stacey John-Davis netted a hat-trick for the Swans, while the other goals came from Emily Thomas and Samantha Wynne. The Saints got a consolation late on through Chloe Shirley.

It is the third consecutive season that The New Saints have been knocked out at the semi-final stage of the competition.

Swansea City took the lead early on in the sixth minute, as Chloe Chivers crossed in a ball that found Emily Thomas, who headed in from within the six-yard area.

Chris Church’s team took a two-goal lead in 14th minute through a long-range effort from Samantha Wynne that went over Ellie Suckley and into the net.

The visitors were pushing for a third a short time later, as Chivers hit a shot from the edge of the 18-yard-area that narrowly went wide.

Swansea did get a third in the 37th minute, as Stacey John-Davis hit the ball from 20-yards out, with the opportunity going in off the post.

At the end of the first-half, Emily Thomas had a strike from 25-yards away, which was met by a good save from Ellie Suckley to palm it away for a corner.

On the following set-piece, the visitors whipped in the corner that found Jessica Williams, who headed the ball over the crossbar.

Before the hour mark, Wynne almost scored a brace for the Swans from a chance from outside the box we, with the effort just going inches wide of the post. 

A fourth came for the Swans in 61st minute through a 30-yard strike by John-Davis that went into the top of the net.

John-Davis got her hat-trick and Swansea’s fifth a couple of minutes later, as the number 12 netted a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The Saints almost got a goal late on through substitute, Evie Manders, whose shot from outside the box was saved by Chelsea Herbert.

Moments on, fellow substitute, Grace Dunkerley had an opportunity from outside the box that went just wide.

There was a consolation goal for Greg Draper’s team in the 89th minute. Chloe Shirley netted on the rebound for her first competitive goal for the club, after initially having a shot that was saved by Herbert.
