Narrow defeat in the capital against Genero Adran Premier leaders

The New Saints lost to Cardiff City in a narrow 3-2 game at Leckwith Stadium.

Zoe Atkins netted the first goal of the game before Chantelle Teare equalised. Eliza Collie then gave the home team the lead back before half-time. Phoebie Poole made it three for the Bluebirds, prior to Beth Lewis netting one back from the spot to make it 3-2 towards the end.

It was a game that went from one end of the pitch to the other. The Saints can feel hard done by that not at least a point was collected.

TNS are now fifth in the Genero Adran Premier table.

The New Saints had the first chance in the eighth minute of the match. Chantelle Teare played a great through ball to Caitlin Chapman who shot wide from just outside the 18-yard area.

Cardiff City went up the other end and took the the lead five later. Ffion Price hit the crossbar from distance and Zoe Atkins slotted in from point blank range on the folllow up.

The Bluebirds were on the attack again a minute after when Phoebie Poole hit a shot from 6-yards away that Sarah Parkes saved.

Iain Darbyshire’s side kept pushing, as in the 20th minute Price had a shot from close distance that blasted over Parkes’ net.

The Saints equalised before the half hour mark. Chapman played a through ball to Teare who scored past Ceryn Chamberlain in the box.

City retook the lead in the 34th. Skipper Siobhan Walsh played a ball through to Eliza Collie who shot from outside the box, Parkes got a glove on the ball, however the effort still had enough power to enter the net.

Seren Watkins had a long shot for the home side in the 39th which went wide of the TNS net.

A minute later Cardiff had another effort when Collie hit the post from 20-yards away.

In first-half stoppage time Lucie Platt had a free-kick opportunity from outside the penalty area that just went wide of the post.

At the start of the second forty-five it became 3-1 to Bluebirds. Watkins played an over-the-top ball to Poole, the Wales under-19 international slotted past Parkes for a brace.

In the 56th, Evie Hughes hit the ball wide for Cardiff from outside the penalty area.

A minute on Watkins hit the ball from within the penalty area that was met with an acrobatic save from Parkes to deny the no.8.

It was a penalty for TNS in the 65th. Lexie Harrison ran with the ball through half of the pitch when the no.6 was brought down by Watkins. Skipper Beth Lewis then converted the follow up by sending Chamberlain the wrong way.

Andy Williams’ side came close to levelling in the 76th when Harrison shot over the crossbar from 5-yards away.

TNS continued to rattle Cardiff. In the 81st Lucie Platt had an attempt from 30-yards away that Chamberlain gathered.

In the 87th, Rhianne Oakley had a shot in the box that was stopped by a brilliant save from Parkes.

In stoppage time Platt got given a red card, from a distance you could not see what it was for.

Williams’ team are next in action against Wrexham at Park Hall Stadium in the FAW Women’s Cup (October 30).
