Preece at the double, as Saints sunk by Met

The New Saints Women succumbed to to their second loss of the season in our first away match of the Genero Adran Premier campaign at Cyncoed Campus against Cardiff Met WFC.

Robyn Pinder netted the first one, as Ellie Preece got a brace with a goal in each half.

After the first two goals were scored for Cardiff Met, we got a lot more in to the game and threatened the Met goal a lot more throughout the remainder of the encounter.

The New Saints now sit seventh in the early standings of the Adran Premier.

In the opening minute of the match, Lucie Platt had an effort that just went over the crossbar.

The Archers took the lead in the eighth minute when Robyn Pinder had a shot from outside the box which found it’s way beneath Sarah Parkes.

Met’s lead was soon doubled when Ellie Preece netted past Sarah Parkes’ right within 10-yards in the 13th.

Three later The New Saints were soon back on the attack when Dani Staley had a strike that went over the crossbar from 20-yards out.

In the 19th minute, the Students’ American Jessica Westhoff hit a shot over the crossbar from 25-yards out.

Before the half hour mark, Helen Evans had a shot for Saints from outside the penalty area that just went wide of Yzzy Taylor’s side’s post.

In the 31st Eliana Chavez had an attempt that Parkes stopped.

Five after, Preece ran in the box for the home side and hit the post from close range.

At the start of the second forty-five, Preece ran in to the 18-yard area and shot, but debut substitute keeper Libby Rubin was there to make the stop.

In the 51st, Staley played a through ball to Caitlin Chapman who shot from 20-yards away, Amelia Forkings managed to parry the ball away for the Students.

Preece scored a brace for Yaylor’s side five later when the ball fell to Preece in box, as the no.7 netted from point blank range.

Over ten minutes later Dani Staley had a strike from 25-yards away that Forkings palmed away.

In the 72nd, Lexie Harrison played a through ball to Chapman who shot from 6-yards away and was only denied by a fine save from Forkings.

A few minutes after, Preece was up the other end of the pitch for Met and hit inches wide of our post, as the score remained at 3-0.

With ten minutes left to play, Pinder ran in on goal but was denied one on one with 18 year-old Rubin.

Seconds on Harrison was up the end of the pitch, shot from from five-yards away, however Forkings was there to deny the attacking winger.

Seven from the end, Evie Griffiths came close for Met as she hit the crossbar.

Andy Williams team next be in action at Park Hall Stadium next week against Aberystwyth Town.
