The New Saints close out 2022 with an 8-0 win against Airbus UK Broughton

The New Saints extended their JD Cymru Premier lead to six points after an 8-0 victory against Airbus UK Broughton.

It was a match that Craig Harrison’s side controlled from start to finish, and they came away with a number of superb goals to show for their efforts.

As with the reverse fixture on Monday, another hat-trick, this time from Ryan Brobbel, was most certainly the highlight of the day.

It took just three minutes for The New Saints to break the deadlock, as Brobbel struck the ball home from close range, following a superb Danny Redmond cross.

The Saints continued to cause problems, and Adam Wilson could’ve added a second for his side in the 12th minute.

After being picked out by Brobbel at the back post, the number 23 was unable to keep his header on target though.

However, the lead was doubled just moments later, as Brobbel grabbed a second of the day, firing past goalkeeper, Lewis Dutton, at the second attempt after another excellent Redmond assist.

Just like that, it was three, as a 30-yard Danny Davies strike found the bottom corner brilliantly in the 18th minute.

Brobbel completed a superb first-half hat-trick in the 33rd minute, turning the ball home from a few yards out after an Ash Baker had come back out off the post.

Five minutes before the break, Baker got himself in on the act, firing home from a tight angle after Wilson’s initial effort was saved.

Things went from bad to worse from that point for the Wingmakers as, in the 42nd minute, they were reduced to 10 men when George Peers was dismissed for a second yellow card.

And just a minute before the half-time whistle, Ben Clark put his side in complete control of proceedings by extending his side’s lead to six.

Harrison’s team picked up where they left off following the restart, and in the 51st minute, Danny Redmond made it 7-0 with a powerful strike from distance.

There was another opportunity for Redmond to find the net again five minutes later, but on that occasion, his shot was the wrong side of the post.

The league leaders continued to fashion chances throughout the half, and both Billy Kirkman, and Brobbel, called Dutton into action with efforts in the minutes that followed.

But it was 8-0 in the 66th minute, with substitute, Jake Canavan, getting his name on the scoresheet, as he fired beneath the goalkeeper after turning with the ball inside the box.

Dan Williams had an opportunity to add a ninth in the 78th minute, but his powerful strike from distance was high over the Airbus crossbar.

There were no further chances in the remaining 12 minutes, with both teams content to see out the remainder of the match, meaning an 8-0 victory, and another three points, is what The New Saints took home to Oswestry.

Craig Harrison’s side are back in action on Tuesday, January 3, travelling to Caernarfon Town to play their rearranged JD Cymru Premier MD 17 fixture.
