Godwin's return marks a homecoming of sorts, as the youngster first joined the Saints' academy set-up at U12s level before joining the Shrews at U16s. After progressing through the ranks at the New Meadow, he signed his first professional contract with the club in 2025.

During his time at Shrewsbury, Godwin gained valuable senior and first-team experience with loan spells at Bromsgrove Sporting, Newcastle Town and Vauxhall Motors while also making his first-team debut as a substitute against Walsall in the EFL Trophy.

Now returning to Oswestry, his arrival adds further depth and provides more defensive competition, as the club look to repeat their European heroics of two seasons ago.

After the signing was completed, head coach Craig Harrison said: "Isaac's got history with the football club as he was here for a while, but then Shrewsbury took him on. Unfortunately, he picked up a bit of an injury and didn't get his second or third year pro contract.

"He'd spoken to Sarge a fair bit, who knew him well from his time as academy director, and he's come in and trained with us and done really well. He's a left-footed left-back with huge potential - he might not be quite ready now, but he's a good size, a good athlete, and good on the ball, so he's certainly one for the future without a shadow of a doubt."

Godwin was also pleased to seal a return to Park Hall, adding: "It feels brilliant to be back here at The New Saints. The club gave me my start, and I've never lost touch with the people here even while I was at Shrewsbury. I've grown a lot as a player since I left, and I can't wait to get out on that left side again and show what I can do."

Chairman Mike Harris said: "Isaac is a name we already know well from his time in our Academy, so it's brilliant to welcome him back to the club. He's someone we've kept a close eye on throughout his time at Shrewsbury, and everyone here is delighted he's chosen to continue his development with us.

"He's still a young player with plenty of growing to do, but the potential is clear to see, and we're looking forward to helping him fulfil it in a TNS shirt."

Godwin will wear the number three shirt at Park Hall, and is available for selection in tomorrow's UEFA Champions League first qualifying round fixture against Sabah FK.
