The New Saints Women can confirm that defender Maria Francis-Jones has completed a permanent transfer to Wrexham for an undisclosed fee.

The deal includes additional performance-related clauses that could see the transfer value rise considerably based on appearances, team success and individual achievements with the Red Dragons.

The transfer represents a significant milestone for women's football in Wales, marking the first time a player has moved between Genero Adran Premier clubs for a transfer fee and setting a new record for the league.

The 22-year-old departs Park Hall following a highly successful spell with the club, having made 45 appearances and contributed 10 goals during her time with The Saints.

Francis-Jones played an integral role in what proved to be a landmark 2024/25 campaign for the club. She was part of the squad that lifted the Genero Adran Trophy and helped The Saints secure a record points tally and the club's highest-ever league finish.

Chief Operating Officer Ian Williams said: "Everyone at the club would like to wish Maria the very best as she begins the next chapter of her football journey. Over the past couple of seasons, she has been an outstanding player for The New Saints, playing a key role in helping us secure the Adran Trophy last season. Her consistent performances helped elevate the team to another level, and she leaves with our sincere thanks for everything she has contributed.

"Maria also makes history as the first player in the women's game in Cymru to be transferred within our league - a significant milestone that reflects both her quality as a player and the continued progression and professionalism of The New Saints as a club."

Everyone at The New Saints would like to thank Maria for her contributions to the club and wish her every success in the next chapter of her career.
