Made to work hard

Going into the JD Cymru Premier MD15 encounter, Newtown AFC sat in third position in the table. Although they had stuttered in their previous two outings (one point from a possible six), nevertheless their overall recent form was excellent.

They were well-organised at Latham Park and made it difficult for the visitors.

This was reflected in the statistics, that while The New Saints enjoyed lots of possession, we were limited to just five attempts on goal in the first period and eight in the second, figures that were well below normal.

 

A key goal

When Josh Daniels found the net against Barry Town United recently with his first JD Cymru Premier goal of the season, it was all over bar the shouting, as The New Saints already enjoyed a healthy 3-1 lead.

This time though, the strike against Newtown was much more of a key goal as it was the one that broke the deadlock.

What another fantastic strike it was for Ben Clark, as his late goal wrapped up the three points for The New Saints.

He doesn’t do tap-ins, does he!

Of course, even though there’s focus on the goals themselves that Clark has scored this season, there’s more to his game than spectacular finishes.

His overall contribution to the cause has been extremely impressive.

 

It’s looking even better

Regarding statistics, we often comment that it’s looking good. Well, following MD15, we can say that the view is even better.

The win at Latham Park, combined with results elsewhere, means that our lead at the top extends from nine points to twenty when you look at the top six in the table.

Oh, and by the way, we can’t get relegated this season either as we are now guaranteed a spot in the championship conference.

 

Back to cup competitions 

It was good to sign off with a Latham Park victory because we are still competing on four fronts, and we won’t be playing JD Cymru Premier football again until the end of the month, as we turn our attention to the knockout trophies that we’re involved in.

We also have a short run of weekend games only, which will help the focus of Craig Harrison and the coaching staff, as they have more time to prepare on the training ground.

As we enter November, it’s definitely a case of so far, so good.
