Off to a great start
It’s always a tough game at Maes Tegid, but we got off to a great start in the fifth minute when Ben Clark had a second bite of the cherry, finding the net from close range.
It’s an extremely competitive midfield at The New Saints and especially so since the loan arrival of Dan Williams, from Swansea City.
Ben justified his place in the starting XI with not only the opening goal but also another solid performance.
Adam Wilson, MOTM
Recent signing, Adam Wilson, has hit the ground running since his arrival at Park Hall.
Finding the net twice in the game at Maes Tegid, scoring the second and the fourth were key goals for The New Saints.
His first opened up a two-goal cushion, while his second pretty much ended any glimmer of hope that the Lakesiders had of getting back in the game.
He was also given the Man Of The Match award by Sgorio.
Five goals, four different names
As well as the two previous players mentioned, Declan McManus made it nine goals in as many league games and Josh Daniels chipped in again.
That’s defence, midfield and forwards once more contributing to the cause.
Whenever we score multiple goals, it’s a common thread to find that they are spread throughout the side.
Reece Warder
It was great to see Reece Warder come off the bench in the final ten minutes.
With The New Saints 5-0 up and dominating, it was an ideal opportunity to blood the youngster.
We chatted with him in June 2021, when we were on our pre-season camp in Scotland, and it’s been good to see him go on to sign a professional contract and make his debut.
We had Paul Harrison with us on TNS Radio and he was saying how well Reece has impressed in training this week.
Clean sheet
While the goals at one end naturally get lots of attention, let’s not forget the clean sheet at the other.
After four games (in all competitions) of conceding at least once, it was good to get back to a miserly defence.
The big picture is that, with nine played, The New Saints has been beaten just four times in the league.
It might be just a statistic but it’s one that tells an impressive story.
