Following trips to Northern Ireland and Iceland, it’s much closer to home next for The New Saints as we begin our domestic season with a short journey to Flintshire. 

The Nathaniel MG Cup second round game against Connah’s Quay Nomads is this coming Saturday (August 6).

The Nomads are current back-to-back winners of the trophy – which is the Welsh League Cup – having beaten Cardiff Metropolitan University FC and STM Sports in the last two finals played.

The competition began life in 1992-1993, alongside the League of Wales (now JD Cymru Premier), and The Nomads’ other final victory came in the 1995-1996 season, when they beat Ebbw Vale.

The New Saints, on the other hand, have lifted the trophy on nine occasions, including once each in previous incarnations of Llansantffraid FC and Total Network Solutions.

The last time the cup resided at Park Hall was in 2017-2018, following the 1-0 win against Cardiff Metropolitan University FC.

Due to the recent managerial change, Chris Seargeant is the current interim head coach, and will take charge of the team for the game this Saturday.

The New Saints will be playing in green and white hooped shirts, green shorts and white socks, with the goalkeepers’ kit yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
